ST.PATRICK'S DAY - 17th MARCH
Watch out for the leprechauns!

Release your inner leprechaun! St Patrick's Day is the day when we celebrate all things Irish. Since 1700 up to ten million Irish people have emigrated to other parts of the world - which might go some way to explaining why St Patrick's Day is more of a global phenomenon than other national days. Many of us have Irish roots, however far back, and this is the day to celebrate them! Traditionally we celebrate by wearing green and drinking Irish stout, with Irish dancing and traditional songs too.

In Ireland, if St Patrick's Day falls on another religious observance (for example, Palm Sunday or during Holy Week) it is moved so as not to coincide. The last time this happened was in 2008, when it was celebrated on March 14th.

Since 1700, up to ten million Irish people have emigrated to other parts of the world - which is why St Patrick's Day is celebrated all over the globe! With so many Irish people moving to other countries and having children, lots of us have Irish roots and this is the time to celebrate. Traditionally on St Patrick's Day people wear green and drink stout; there is Irish dancing and singing too; a proper celebration of all things Irish!
