Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year on June 22nd. People traditionally gather for a free festival at Stonehenge on the night of the 21st, to watch the sun rise over the stones the following morning. Many people attend Solstice dressed in the traditional white robe of the Druids, but this is truly a festival where anything goes! People go to this festival dressed in all sorts of weird and wonderful costumes; some even turn up dressed as pirates! Don't worry if you can't get to Stonehenge to celebrate the Solstice; why not hold your own party to celebrate the longest day of the year?
The Halfway Up Mountain Biking Club hold their annual Solstice Bike Ride from 6pm on the 21st to 00:30 on the 22nd in Blackwood, South Wales. The race is fancy dress and sure to be great fun. If you can't get to Blackwood, why not hold your own fancy dress bike ride in honour of the Solstice?
