READING & LEEDS FESTIVAL - 28 - 30th AUGUST
It's two awesome festivals rolled into one… or two… in two different cities!
Reading Festival began as the National Jazz Festival, which was held at various different venues throughout the 1960s before settling in Reading in 1971. It went from strength to strength until in 1999 when it gained a second leg at Leeds. Since then, things have gone from great to brilliant with fantastic musical acts, a Reading Fringe Festival, and all sorts of nonsense. The crowds at Reading and Leeds are known for their fantastical fancy dress outfits, wandering about the festival in all manner of outfits. Last year, as well as amazing dressing up and music, last year there was even some bonkers soul attempting a spot of zorbing across the crowd! And then there was the time Macklemore performed part of his set with an inflatable Spiderman, and Blink 182 ending the festival in pure style with on-stage pyrotechnics. Metallica have performed at the Reading and Leeds festivals so many times, Lars Ulrich jokes that they're practically the house band. A festival whose house band is Metallica? This one's definitely worth a visit - in a dinosaur onesie, obviously.
