Captain America Civil WAr

Batman vs Superman was not the only superhero blockbuster scheduled for release this year; Captain America: Civil War is released this Friday and we can’t wait.

This movie is the thirteenth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and sees the Avengers split in two, with one side led by Steve Rogers/Captain America and the other by Tony Stark/Iron Man – and while the two sides are at war, the world is threatened by a new enemy.

To celebrate the exciting release of this new movie, here are some things you might not know…

  • One of the actors commented in an interview that the film’s budget was so big, you could make 20 films from it – so expect a lot of CGI, explosions and general pizzaz, for that much money!
  • This movie sees the live action debut of Black Panther, one of the first African superheroes.
  • This film is said to set up two forthcoming movies, Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 and 2, which are due for release  in 2018 and 2019.
  • Mark Ruffalo was spotted on the movie set, which sparked rumours that the Hulk would appear in it – but his role ended up on the cutting room floor. In fact, this is the first movie in which General Thaddeus Ross appears without Bruce Banner/the Hulk alongside him
  • Although the movie is called Captain America: Civil War, people have said it’s more like an Avengers movie with lots of characters having  large roles in it. In fact, Anthony Mackie (Falcon) described the movie as “Avengers: 2.5.”
  • The movie was filmed in Puerto Rico, Berlin and Atlanta
  • The trailer for this movie broke the record previously held by The Force Awakens, with 64 million views in 24 hours. Both are Disney movies, so either way Disney wins on that front!
  • The Black Panther costume is apparently a combination of actual costume and visual effects.
  • This is the longest MCU film to date, at 2 hours and 26 minutes. So stock up on popcorn!
  • This movie is probably not as dark or extreme as the comic books, as it has been confirmed that the MCU movies will not shift into a dark path.
  • Spiderman also features in this movie; it’s his first appearance in the MCU, and he’s played by Tom Holland – the youngest person to ever play Spiderman at just 19 years old.

Reviews so far have been mixed, but we’re looking forward to seeing all the costumes people turn up in on opening night. If there’s one thing you can rely on comic book fans for, it’s good fancy dress!

Movie Party Special Comments Off on Movie Party Special

Last week saw the end of this year’s award season with the 86th Academy Awards. If you’re planning a film –themed party to celebrate the winners (and the losers) or just need an excuse to dress up as your favourite character, we’ve got some great ideas to inspire you.

American Hustle

David O’Russell’s 70s flick American Hustle received a whopping 10 nominations at this year’s Academy Awards, yet sadly came away with nothing. But as the film that received the most nominations in 2014, there’s still every reason to dress up in your 70s get-up for your movie-based bash.

We love this great tutorial from Punk Chyaz, which shows you how to achieve a cool Jennifer Lawrence-inspired look from the film.

The Wolf of Wall Street

Martin Scorsese’s tale of 80s yuppie greed didn’t win any awards at this year’s Oscars, but as it’s one of the most talked about films this year, there’s every reason to reach for a massive mobile phone, slap on some khakis, a bright polo shirt and complete with a sweater over the shoulders. Don’t forget to slick back your hair and turn up your collar!

 The Great Gatsby

Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby came away with the award for best costume design, for its fresh and fabulous flapper outfits. If you’re going for a Great Gatsby themed ensemble, then this gorgeous hairstyle will really finish off your look.

And the rest…

If you’re going for something a little more fun with your costume why not dress in style and celebrate the film that swept the board at this year’s Oscars: Gravity.

Iron Man 3 was also in the list of this year’s nominees, so if you’ve always fancied yourself as playboy and entrepreneur Tony Stark, now’s your chance to become one of Marvel’s most well-loved superheroes!

And the rest#

Just for fun…

Star Trek: Into Darkness was also nominated for an award, but even if you don’t fancy sporting the Spock ears and blue sweater yourself, you might have a furry friend who’d love to be involved in your Oscar celebrations!
