UNESCO has been celebrating International Literacy Day for forty years now.

The aim of the day is to remind people that literacy is a basic human right, and the foundation of all learning.

Literacy rates across Bangladesh are as low as 40%; with over 40 different languages being spoken there, it’s difficult to educate so many different communities.

Literacy is really important, and something that can truly change lives.

Why not celebrate International Literacy Day this year by making it fun? Dress up as a character from your favourite book, and do lots of book-related activities with your children!
