RoboCop a character credited in the science fiction film first viewed 1987. The film set in a crime ridden  Michigan in the future and the main character evolving around a police officer, who was murdered and subsequently re-created as a super human cyborg known as ‘RoboCop’. As well as spawning a terrifically popular RoboCop Fancy Dress Costume, the film has had two sequels, four television series, video games and comic book adaptations.

Although based on Michigan, many of the urban settings of the film were done in Dallas, Texas due to the futuristic appearances of the buildings. The frontage of Dallas City Hall was used as the exterior for the fictional OCP Headquarters.

The development of the RoboCop costume originally worn by Peter Weller, the actor hired to play the lead role, was behind schedule and whilst waiting its arrival ‘Weller’ prepared for the role using a padded costume. Unfortunately, by the time shooting had started and the costume arrived on set, it was discovered that it was almost impossible to move in it , he had to have additional training to get accustomed to the RoboCop costume to allow filming to continue. Whilst filming and wearing the costume, Weller was losing up to three pounds a day due to sweat loss in temperatures in excess of 100 degrees, the suit eventually having a fan built into it.
