Moulin Rouge is not just a film with Ewan Macgregor and Nicole Kidman! The Moulin Rouge is a famous cabaret club in Paris, opened in 1889 and still going strong. It is known as the birth place of the can-can dance, and is famously identifiable by the red windmill on its roof. In 1900 people from across the world flocked to Paris for the Universal Exhibition, and having experienced the Moulin Rouge, returned home to tell their families of Paris, the “capital of pleasure” and a modern Babylon!
The Moulin Rouge is known for extravagant shows inspired by the circus. It has been home to some of the most famous cabaret performers throughout its extensive history. Ginger Rogers famously performed there in 1979 for its 90th birthday; Liza Minelli has also performed there, along with Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. From 1963 until his death in 2013, the owner Jacki Clerico was superstitious and would only have revues whose titles began with an F showing at the Moulin Rouge. The club has been the subject of numerous books, films and documentaries - and for good reason!
Our Moulin Rouge fancy dress costumes celebrate everything that is fantastic about the club: think of can-can dancers, basques in every possible colour, ruffled skirts, fishnet stockings and the sexiest fancy dress costumes you’ll ever see.
