The Scottish Book Trust are organising Book Week Scotland this November in order to encourage all of us to read more, and enjoy more books. This week-long celebration of reading will involve all sorts of events all over Scotland - as well as lots of free books being handed out. In fact, if you’re in Scotland, you can contact Scottish Book Trust to get your own box of books to hand out to friends and family. What a brilliant way to get people back into reading!
The best part about Book Week is that there is always a fancy dress element, where you get to dress up as your favourite character from a book. A lot of younger people will go for Harry Potter - but what about Bilbo Baggins from The Hobbit, an amazing and timeless classic? Or the Very Hungry Caterpillar? Don’t tell us you don’t remember him; everyone remembers Eric Carle’s amazing caterpillar and all the food he ate. Tin Tin is a brilliant choice also, and really simple to pull off. Or Willy Wonka, how fantastic would it be to dress up as the eccentric chocolate factory owner from Roald Dahl’s classic? Or an Oompa Loompa, if you can bear to paint your face orange! Then there’s any character from Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Where’s Wally ... the list really is endless. And much like reading a book, your costume is only limited by your imagination!
