What is the plural of Elvis? Elvi? Or Elvises? One place you’re bound to find out the answer is in Blackpool this July. Europe’s Tribute to Elvis, a weekend festival, runs from 4th to 6th July. The festival is in its second year, and it’s the ultimate place to celebrate all things Elvis. If you love The King, this is the place to celebrate his life, and have a great time doing so!
Alongside all manner of shows and events, the Festival hosts the Ultimate Elvis preliminary contest. The winner of this contest will go on to represent Europe’s Tribute to Elvis in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest finals in Memphis later this year.
The timing of this festival is no coincidence: on 5th July 1954, Elvis Aaron Presley, aged 19, walked into Sun Studios in Memphis and began recording with Scotty Moore and Bill Black. The song they recorded was “That’s All Right” and at the moment they finished recording, Rock ‘n’ Roll was born and music was changed forever.
Here at Fancy Dress Ball, we love Elvis. Elvis costumes are always really popular, because The King continues to be so popular, even decades after his death. He has a massive following of very loyal fans, many of whom have made the trip to Graceland more than once. If Memphis is a little far for you to travel though, this festival is surely the next best thing. You’re not likely to see so many Elvises in the same place anywhere else!
