On Saturday 29th August Manchester will be again taken over by a fantastic carnival atmosphere as the Manchester Pride parade takes to the streets. There are always thousands of spectators for this event which travels around key streets before finishing at the world famous gay village. It has built up over the years, starting off as quite a small affair, and has been known by various different names during this time - including Mardi Gras and EuroPride. This festival means business; it lasts for ten days and includes a "Pride Fringe" with loads of arts, music and cultural events all over the city.
Manchester Pride is one of the longest running Pride events in the country, attracting thousands of visitors to Manchester every year. As well as the Big Weekend, there are all sorts of other attractions including the "Pride Fringe" with all sorts of arts and cultural events all over the city. The parade is massive, and free for all to watch, but there are also lots of other events going on, which can be accessed upon purchase of a Pride wristband. The August Bank Holiday Big Weekend is looking to be truly amazing this year, with new acts being announced in the lead up that include Texas, Atomic Kitten, Dannii Minogue and DJ Fresh. Entry to the events inside the Village require prior purchase of a wristband, but there are loads of things going on outside of the Village, and by no means restricted to the LGBT community; it's a really inclusive event where everyone is welcome!
