Everybody has a favourite Disney character, so why miss the opportunity to live out a dream and dress as a princess, talking animal or hero for the day?
Created by Walt and Roy Disney in 1923, it’s a common misconception that the first cartoon was Steamboat Willie. The first work produced by the Disney Studios was Alice’s Wonderland and featured a young girl interacting with animated critters in 1923.
Walt then created a character by the name of Oswal the Lucky Rabbit, though this created a loss for the company. The real success came with the creation of the character we now know as Mickey Mouse.
Originally named Mortimer, our beloved mouse friend first featured in Plane Crazy and The Gallopin’ Gaucho, though he became a real success with the sound cartoon Steamboat Willie.
The first feature length animation by the company came in the form of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, which took three years to make. At the time of its release, the film became the highest grossing film ever, meaning Disney was finally on its way to becoming the global phenomenon it is today.
Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo and Bambi were the following feature length films, though these productions became limited due to the Second World War. However, with the commercial success of Cinderella in 1950, it showed that people were still in love with feature length animation.
Disney is beloved by so many thanks to the stream of enchanting films produced by the company, so why not show your love for the internationally recognised characters by trying out a Disney costume!
