80′s fancy dress 0

The 80′s – a decade of memories.  New wonderful toys like the rubik’s cube and space hoppers!  The decade of memorable music by the likes of Wham! Terence Trent D’Arby and one of my personal favourites The Proclaimers!  I challenge you all not to get up and chant to ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 miles)’

Fashion took a colourful turn during this decade giving us brightly coloured costumes with bright jewellery and not forgetting the legwarmers and other great accessories.  The 80′s allowed people to combine those colours which were previously not even allowed in the same drawer at home.  Take a look at the classic 80′s look shown below.

You might have been born, grew into an adult or simply enjoyed the 80′s any which way it is a decade to relive.  Have a look through your wardrobe and see what you have been holding onto from the 80′s and find something to enhance your fancy dress costume for your next 80′s event.  There are plenty events to choose from throughout the year – why not check out Top Banana a fabulous 80′s site which regularly organise events in the Leeds area.

Butlins 70's weekender

Butlins 70's weekender

Fancy dress costumes have been a passion for the whole team here at fancy dress ball for several years now.  The beginning for all this dressing up and having fun was when we all attended our first Butlins Weekender together.  Now many have weekends have passed since then, most of them at Butlins Skegness but also at Butlins Minehead.

As I’m sure you are all aware each Butlins adult weekend has a theme – including 60′s, 70′s80′s and disco inferno to name a few.  Our first weekend together was a 70′s weekend in 2006.  Our fancy dress costumes came from a mixture of previously owned items and some items bought prior to the event.  I think we even topped up our costumes with some items from Skegness town centre!  Butlins also sell some good top up items like wigs, shades and other accessories for those last minute additions.  We quickly noticed the look of fun and enjoyment on other peoples faces as we pranced around the big tent with our Mother-of-all-afro wigs on and our brightly coloured pimp outfits.  Look at the picture – I am the one with the genuine moustache by the way – very proud of that tash I am!

Feeling a genuine part of someone elses fun and enjoyment is a feeling that you don’t come across very often.  After that night we new what we had to do – keep coming to Butlins, keep enjoying ourselves and keep sharing the fun with everyone!  The fancydressball.co.uk team had given themselves a challenge - can we look better at the next event!  Stay tuned in to this Blog for our progress.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson played the original ghost busting pack.  Why not team up with three of your friends and recreate some scenes using movie fancy dress costumes.  Recruit a sexy vixen type woman and recreate the demi-god possessed character played by Sigourney Weaver (possessed by Zuul) – a move which is sure to attract attention at any party.  However you may struggle trying to get a giant marshmallow man costume but best of luck.

Gene Simmons and Alice Cooper

Gene Simmons and Alice Cooper

For those about to rock!…  We certainly salute these two for paying homage to their rock idols by fashioning costumes and donning face paint and rock wigs in their likenesses.  For the uneducated amongst you, these two are Gene Simmons and Alice Cooper - although I’m told by an underground source of fancydressball.co.uk that their real names are Howie and Phil – but who knows the truth.  Both these artists had great success in the Eighties with their respective bands Kiss and Alice Cooper, each putting their hand to the mold which formed many of today’s Rock and Heavy Metal bands.  Costumes wise these guys have really gone out and put real thought and effort into mastering a look which probably took many makeup and costume artists several hours to perfect.  These are not off the shelf solutions but we here at fancydressball.co.uk have the manpower, resource and talent to produce these custom builds – why not make contact us with an idea and we’ll do our best to provide a unique fancy dress solution for you and your friends.
