Butlins 70's weekender
Fancy dress costumes have been a passion for the whole team here at fancy dress ball for several years now. The beginning for all this dressing up and having fun was when we all attended our first Butlins Weekender together. Now many have weekends have passed since then, most of them at Butlins Skegness but also at Butlins Minehead.
As I’m sure you are all aware each Butlins adult weekend has a theme – including 60′s, 70′s, 80′s and disco inferno to name a few. Our first weekend together was a 70′s weekend in 2006. Our fancy dress costumes came from a mixture of previously owned items and some items bought prior to the event. I think we even topped up our costumes with some items from Skegness town centre! Butlins also sell some good top up items like wigs, shades and other accessories for those last minute additions. We quickly noticed the look of fun and enjoyment on other peoples faces as we pranced around the big tent with our Mother-of-all-afro wigs on and our brightly coloured pimp outfits. Look at the picture – I am the one with the genuine moustache by the way – very proud of that tash I am!
Feeling a genuine part of someone elses fun and enjoyment is a feeling that you don’t come across very often. After that night we new what we had to do – keep coming to Butlins, keep enjoying ourselves and keep sharing the fun with everyone! The fancydressball.co.uk team had given themselves a challenge - can we look better at the next event! Stay tuned in to this Blog for our progress.

Pink Panther fancy dress
A staggering elevan movies have been made including the release in 1963 of the first movie The Pink Panther. It was the success of the movie series which spawned the animated series with this much loved and huggable character you can see in this photo.
This is a great fancy dress costume which requires very liitle preparation and is really simple to wear. The whole outfit is a simple one piece jump suit – a bit like dressing up when you were a child! Then simply pull up the elasticated hood and hey presto – your in character fancy dress!
This cuddly panther, in the picture above, has chosen to add to the costume with some clever face make-up and some wonderful eye lash extensions. These costume accessories and others are all available from fancydressball.co.uk
Other cartoon fancy dress costumes like Bugs Bunny, Taz, Tweety and Slyvestar are also available. So if you and a few friends are off to an event why not have yourself a cartoon theme to your costumes – whatever you choose let fancydressball.co.uk help you have a ball and a night to remember!

butlins fancy dress
We were delighted here at fancydressball.co.uk when Butlins recently contacted us to discuss our fancy dress story and featured a double page article supporting fancydressball.co.uk
Butlins were suprised to know that the founders of Fancy Dress Ball have been keen party go’ers to their popular Big Weekenders for over six years, visiting all the Butlins camps during this time. Each visit (usually four or five per year) of course would involve at least three fancy dress costumes for various themed weekend including 70′s, 80′s or disco to name a few.
So not only are we fancy dress addicts, we now run a successful business providing great fancy dress costumes online, the best of both worlds!
We have many Butlins Weekenders booked during 2009 and will be wearing some of the very best costumes available. A big thanks to Butlins for the support and we hope to see all the fancy dress fans there soon.

fancy dress
Whether you’ve just been invited to a fancy dress party or deciding which costume to wear on a stag or hen party, the question often asked is “Should I hire or buy my fancy dress costume?”
Usually when hiring a fancy dress costume, it’s normally required to visit the fancy dress shop in person. One of the major draw backs with hiring a fancy dress costume is with limited choice especially when thousands of costumes are available these days. Not only is limited choice a factor, often the costumes come as “one size fits all”. Hire costs usually start at around £50 with an additional deposit required. It’s usual practice to sign an agreement to cover the full cost of the outfit incase of damage. Now everyone knows that it’s all too easy to spill a drink or attract cigarette burns, especially when costumes are often over sized or have capes, wings etc.
You may be suprised to know that to buy a fancy dress costume can be more cost effective than to hire. With the huge choice of fancy dress costumes and accessories available and the quality of many costumes being termed “hire quality” then why not simply choose the costume and sizing of your choice simply from the comfort of your PC. No need with the hassle of visiting shops, paying deposits and worrying about spilling the odd rum and coke!
Not only is buying a fancy dress costume a sensible option, you can wear it as many times as you like, sell or swap with your friends. With fancy dress being so popular these days, once you have the bug, you may just find yourself going to more fancy dress parties.
The team at Fancy Dress Ball are here to help. Our new online fancy dress shop opens in June 2009, with thousands of costumes and accessories to chose from. Struggling for an idea? then why not drop us a line and we are only too happy to help you decide. We are sure you will be amazed with the choice available, the quality and the price too.
See you VERY soon at fancydressball.co.uk
