The 80′s was an age of excess and therefore no 80 fancy dress costumes should be without a wild child edge. Achieving this wild child look can be a challenge, depending on the lengths your willing to go to; which is where Fancy Dress Ball comes in with great wigs and 80′s fancy dress costumes to make achieving the wild child look a breeze.
Perhaps the easiest way to channel your inner wild child is by wearing an appropriate wig. At Fancy Dress Ball we’ve got loads of great wigs that will turn even the most staid of 80′s fancy dress costumes into a wild party outfit! When choosing a wig for an 80′s fancy dress costume, you should be looking at bright colours and wild styles – just like those 80′s rock icons.
Of course wigs aren’t the be all and end all of the wild child look, and if you really want to go the whole hog when it comes to your 80′s fancy dress costumes then you might consider some great 80′s wild child accessories. With this in mind, some brightly coloured bangles or oversize earrings are a great way add a little sassiness to 80′s fancy dress costumes.
As a final point, if your really want your eighties fancy dress costumes to have a wild child edge then its going to take a little more than wigs and accessories. To complete your wild child outfit, you need a little of that wild child attitude!

The 80s were a golden age for many reasons, but chief among them was the fashion, at least for the ladies anyway. It is no wonder that 80s fancy dress parties are huge right now as ladies fall out of taxis dressed as Madonna, Princess Di and even Margaret Thatcher. There were some ladies fashion ideas that are uniquely 80s, and these can be applied to make your 80s fancy dress costume look perfect!
Shoulder pads
All manner of ladies dresses and tops had large shoulder pads that made women look like NFL quarterbacks. This style was made popular by glamorous, feisty women in TV shows such as ‘Dallas’ and ‘Dynasty’ and went on to define eighties power women, making them perfect for imitating in fancy dress costumes.
Accessories
Madonna practically funded the accessories industry in the 80s by wearing single earrings, fluorescent beads, and plum coloured hair. She was a female fashion icon and girls across the world copied her penchant for fingerless gloves, tight laced corsets and fishnet tights.
Make-up
80s make-up was characterised by bold, pink cheek bones and painted eyes. Any colour of eyeshadow would do, with bright blues and greens being favourites. Eyeliner was plentiful and shiny red lipstick was a given.
Ladies 80s fancy dress costumes can be any length of dress or skirt and can be complemented by most colours of make-up and accessories. Be bold and bright, add some stockings and fingerless gloves and your 80s fancy dress costume won’t be too far wrong.

Although punk’s not dead, the 80s was its grand heyday. Throughout the decade it was stronger, dirtier, rougher, and altogether more punk than before or since. A punk theme makes one of the most striking 80s fancy dress costumes, and it isn’t a difficult look to achieve.
The basic punk 80s outfit starts with a pair of old jeans, as ripped as decency allows. Get down to your local charity shop and take their most battered pair off their hands, then go straight to our 80s fancy dress accessories section. Pick up a pair of leather-look fingerless gloves and maybe a spiked collar, or anything with metal studs.
Any t-shirt will do, or you can leave the shirt out altogether and just wear an old leather or denim jacket. If it’s denim, rip the arms off for added authenticity. This sort of fancy dress theme is extremely easy to achieve.
As for hair, the mohican is the classic punk look, and we’ve got a range of mohawk wigs that are perfect for fancy dress. Anything brightly coloured will also do nicely. Remember that you can savage a neat and tidy, brightly coloured wig with a pair of scissors to make it more punk rock.
There are also some little details you can add yourself. A packet of safety pins strategically deployed to hold ripped clothing together, or just for decoration is good form on any punk-ish 80s fancy dress. Tattoos can be drawn on with eyebrow pencil – ‘love’ and ‘hate’ across the knuckles is a classic. Mock scars can be drawn on in the same way.
