The seventies may just be our favourite decade for bright, zany, what-where-they-thinking, flower power-inspired fancy dress! Whether you’re a hippy or a disco diva, we’ve got loads of 1970s fancy dress options for groovy guys and hippy chicks!
Boogie Babes
Let’s dance! The seventies mean one thing to disco babes the land over – getting groovy on the dance floor! Our top disco look of the day is the Disco Diva Costume, which is finished off perfectly with the Mega Huge Afro Wig and Star Shaped Superstar Shades. You go girl!
Flower Child
Your inner hippy might not be screaming to get out, but she may well be sitting around a campfire singing along until you let her out for a little fancy dress fantasy! Our best hippy chick costume of the day is the 70s Hippy Fringed Dress, including patterned dress and fringed waistcoat.

Disco Papas
70s outfits for men = silk, sequins and silly hair! Our pick of the day is the 70s Groovy Disco Dancer Costume (don’t forget the Disco Dirt Bag Wig & Moustache!) We also stock lots and lots of crazy shirt and suit options, and don’t forget to visit the 70s Accessories section for those little finishing touches!
Hippy Dudes
We reckon it’s tough to beat the chilled-out cool of the Reggae Man Costume if you’re looking for an easy hippy-inspired outfit to lie under the sun at your fancy dress event.

When we think of the seventies, we tend to imagine that the whole decade was a time when people wore massive flares, platform shoes, tank tops and hair styles for men which were known as Feather Cuts. The fact is that this, ahem, style was restricted to a brief period, between 1972 and 1976, or perhaps a little longer if you refused to give up your flares when straight-leg jeans came into fashion.
The Punk movement which exploded in the UK in late 1976 blew away the Glam Rockers and the fashions which their fans wore, but we still tend to think of the decade as the Glam Rock period when The Sweet, Slade, Mud and The Rubettes dominated the pop charts. This is why, if you are holding a seventies fancy dress party, the chances are that you and your guests will want to recreate the look which made this decade stand out.
You can let your imagination go wild when it comes to 1970s fancy dress, with loads of eye make up, glitter in your hair and garish lipstick to complement the outfit you choose for the party. And that’s just the blokes.
If you are planning a party where 70s outfits and other related adult costumes will dominate the room, make sure the atmosphere is perfect by buying a couple of seventies Glam Rock compilation CDs, and start practising the dance moves to Tiger Feet! If you really want to make it authentic, you could redecorate the room with browns and purples with a couple of lava lamps. On second thoughts, you might want to forget that last bit…

It was the era when Britain when fashion taste was so bad it was good, when prints were loud and everyone boogied to great music – no wonder many people these days choose a 70s theme for their party!
If you’ve been invited to a Seventies do, you don’t have to go digging at the back of the wardrobe to see if there are any flares and platform shoes lurking there. Instead, browse through the Fancy Dress Ball website, where you will find 1970s fancy dress outfits to suit absolutely every taste.
The guys can really go for it – our men’s fancy dress outfits for the 70s include a Groovy Disco Dancer costume complete with sexy hip-hugging catsuit and big collar, and you can complete the look with a wig and moustache and snazzy disco male dance shoes. The whole look is available on one page, so it’s easy to order and get the complete look in one go.

If you’re not quite so extrovert, but still need 70s fancy dress, try our 70s satin shirt – not exactly quiet, but definitely in the spirit of the party!
Ladies can also find some amazing 70s outfits to choose from. You can be a Dancing Queen in shiny green or pink, or a Disco Dolly with matching headscarf – or do some kung fu fighting in a mini kimono outfit.
Our prices are extremely competitive, and you can either order online or get in touch with us by phone to discuss your order or buy an outfit.

Don’t they say silliness is next to godliness? We’re pretty sure that sounds about right! Fancy dress events are the ideal excuse to kick back, dress like a dafty and have the time of your life with your favourite folks. Always wanted to dress up with your best mate as Mario and Luigi? Always held the belief that you are, in some way, destined to be She-Ra? That’s your inner child talking!
Characters
Our range of adult fancy dress character costumes is second to none. Elmo, Betty Boop, Big Bird, He-Man, Spongebob Squarepants, the Honey Monster, Charlie Brown, Count Duckula, Fraggle Rock, Bananas in Pyjamas – we’re pretty confident you’ll be too stuck choosing between fancy dress character costumes to notice the nostalgic tears of joy streaming down your 2011 face!
Games and Silly Things
Rubik’s Cubes, woopie cushions, Crayola crayons, massive sumo wrestlers, human dartboards – take your pick from all the ridiculous creations kept safely in our “Funny Costumes” area (if we let them run free they’ll take over!)

We reckon few things are more satisfying than letting that mischievous little inner child out for a chaotic episode every now and then. Fancy dress – be it 80s costumes, 70s outfits, scary, romantic, Hawaiian, food-themed, everything – is about having fun doing something you wouldn’t usually have the freedom to do. And by that we mean… dress like a crazy person!
Fair enough, we know you may only wear that E.T mask for one night (and maybe a little when alone on a Thursday night watching the telly!), so we try to keep costs down as much as possible too.

Everyone goes to parties. Such social gatherings can occur at birthdays, during the festive season, to celebrate engagements and anniversaries and for many other purposes.
For this reason, it can be hard to make a bash you organise stand out from the rest and live on in people’s memories.
However, there are ways of ensuring such gatherings are more prominent in individuals’ thoughts.
Choosing a fancy dress theme is one such approach. This means that those who attend the event are less likely to forget it.
For example, you may have reached a milestone age and are planning to host a special party.
By selecting a theme, such as 70s outfits or 80s fancy dress, you will be sure to get people talking and your event will be different from most other such occasions.

After all, partygoers tend to lose their inhibitions more when they are masquerading as someone else, or themselves but in a different era.
There is something fun about getting dressed up in this way and plenty of photos are bound to be taken.
Using fancy dress to make your bash stand out may be particularly important during the festive season because of the number of social gatherings that take place during this period.
Often work parties occur, along with meetings of friends and family and, following Christmas, the New Year celebrations kick off.
So, if you do not make the effort to come up with a memorable theme for your party, it is likely to get lost in people’s minds among the other events they are invited to.

Not many of us can remember the 70s – and that’s not just because of the great parties. However, this doesn’t mean that people don’t appreciate a great 70s fancy dress party, and in fact 70s fancy dress is still one of the most popular formats for a fancy dress party. But why is that, and how do you throw the perfect 70s fancy dress party?
Well just like the 1980s the 1970s was a decade that was renowned for its music, and therefore by opting for a 70s fancy dress theme then you’ll have the music sorted! Even better, you’ll get to pull out all of those old disco moves on the dancefloor!

Wigs are a boon to fancy dress parties, and luckily the 1970s was a decade of extreme hair! Therefore why not give your outfit that immediate 70s twist by incorporating some great 70s wigs? At Fancy Dress Ball we don’t just stock great 70s costumes, but we also have loads of fabulous 70s wigs too!
Speaking of 70s costumes, at Fancy Dress Ball you really are spoiled for choice, and we stock everything from famous 70s character costumes – such as Womble costumes – to outfits that really have got the funk!
Of course, if you want to create the perfect 70s party then wigs, costumes and music just wont be enough, and instead you could also create a 70s banquet, complete with cheese and pineapple on sticks – you don’t get more 70s than that!

The 70s are fashionable again. Back in the day nobody knew what a mobile phone was and Blackberry and Apple were only fruits. Space hoppers were cool and platform boots for both men and woman could induce a bout of vertigio on sight! As a decade of fashion, 70s outfits have been unsurpassed for those iconic images and crazy garments – many of which are still popular today, albeit usually in a more watered down form.
However the Seventies vibe is still strong on the party circuit and many events and nightclubs hold 70s fancy dress parties. So much so that many people are discovering the advantages of buying your own fancy dress costume rather than hiring one out repeatedly. Often, it can actually cost less to buy than the charge for renting one and it’s guaranteed to be in your size.
We at Fancy Dress Ball specialise in 70s fancy dress. For the ladies, we can have you looking like a member of Abba, a disco diva or even Miss Whiplash (if it’s that sort of party!) and whatever you choose, that 70s feel is back with a bang.
The men needn’t feel left out. They can turn up looking like John Travolta from ‘Saturday Night Fever’, or we can provide you with a range of ridiculously patterned satin shirts and flared trousers and you can come up with your own special 70s fancydress look.
At Fancy Dress Ball, we can even provide the wigs if you need a 70s fancy dress afro to complete your look. We also have a fantastic selection of beards and moustaches to round it off.
