80′s Fancy Dress – Grab your Shoulder Pads 0

Posted on August 27, 2010 by admin

It’s hard to believe that 80’s styles are considered vintage now—but time marches on, as they say. And if you’re a fan of the 80’s, or you lived through the 80’s, why not go to your next party in 80’s fancy dress?

The bold colours and the big plastic beads, rainbow stripes and fishnet stockings—all this and more make 80’s style women’s fancy dress costumes a lot of fun. And you’ll be sure to catch someone’s eye if you go as a Baywatch lifeguard, a blushing bride, or a red or pink sparkly rock guitar.

Pair a neon blue tutu with black fishnet stockings, add a pretty tank top, and you’re set to go. For more snazzy accessories and fun final touches, add big, false eyelashes in pink or purple, big sunglasses, or long strands of florescent beads.

Leg warmers were all the rage, so why not pop on a pair of orange or pink ones over your white fishnet stockings? Wear white heels and an orange or green tutu, and you’ve got the look.

And if you really want to cause a stir, why not add a fun wig? You can have long, luxuriously straight purple hair, or maybe you’d prefer bleach blond crimped locks? Glamorous curls or a frizzy afro – with a wig, you can have hair in just about any colour for one night.

Dress up your next fancy dress occasion with a fun 80’s costume, and you’re sure to get all the attention you want.

A 70’s fancy dress costume is always a fun choice because the bright colours, bold designs, and funky styles always draw the eye and spark interesting conversations. And there so many different choices.

Men’s 70’s fancy dress offers everything from bright pink Elvis-style suits to ruffled black satin shirts, from flowered trousers to cheetah pimp costumes. You can even get a flowered suit.

Add some bling to whatever 70’s costume you choose by purchasing dollar sign spectacles, big faux gold rings, a glittery microphone, or a disco hat.

Ladies fancy dress ranges from bold, panelled summer dresses to sexy, belted cat suits, and from Dancing Queens costumes to a slightly suggestive Jackie-O look. Whether you want to be a red hot mama, a pimp, or a flower child hippy, there’s something for you. From sleek white to pink and orange paisley, mod flowers or feminine blooms, pin stripes or peace signs—there’s so much to choose from.

After you’ve chosen your 70′s costume, why not spice it up with a hat or a wig? If you have short hair, why not try a long, sleek blond wig? Or, if your hair is stick straight, you get a frizzy, curly wig.

Whatever you choose, the variety that 70’s fancy dress costumes afford will certainly allow you to find a costume that’s fun, and perfect for you.

Unusual Fancy Dress Costumes 0

Posted on August 25, 2010 by admin

Fancy dress parties, especially for significant birthdays, are very popular right now. But despite how fun these parties are, sometimes choosing the right fancy dress costume can be difficult. There’s nothing more gutting than showing up to a party in the same costume as one of your friends! To choose a more unusual fancy dress costume, think outside the box.

For unusual ladies fancy dress costumes, why not choose a historical figure. You can choose a popular one like Cleopatra or a Greek goddess like Medusa, but if you want to be really unusual, why not choose a more generic costume and then personalize it. Dress as a queen, and then add your own touches to become Marie Antoinette, Queen Victoria, or even Mary Queen of Scots. Or, choose a generic Indian costume and become Pocahontas, or Sacajawea.

For a groovy look, choose a generic 60’s, 70’s, or 80’s fancy dress costume and then think of a historical figure from that era that you admire. Maybe an artist or novelist?

For unusual men’s fancy dress, take the same principle. A generic Viking costume can become Leif Erikson, the Viking who discovered the Americas well before Christopher Columbus. Or, choose a French Revolution costume and become Sidney Carton from A Tale of Two Cities.

Choosing unusual fancy dress costumes is really easy when you put your mind to work. Thinking outside the back can make any average costume become something really special.

Halloween Costumes to Suit You Individually 0

Posted on August 24, 2010 by admin

Halloween costumes can be very unflattering, especially those that come in bright colours. Certain colours simply do not look good on certain people, depending on their skin tone, hair colour, and eye colour. So, how can you tell what looks good on you, and choose a fancy dress costume that’s a winner?

First, think about your favourite colours. You don’t want to wear a Halloween costume in a colour that you don’t like anyway. Chances are you have some sense of what looks good on you already. Perhaps your Halloween costumes from last year included a bright yellow Goldilocks outfit, and everyone told you it looked fabulous on you. That’s a good sign.

Next, figure out your skin tone. Most skin tones are either cool or warm. Cool skin tones have pink, red, purple, and blue undertones, and warm skin tones have undertones that are brown, olive, peach, or beige. If you have cool skin, you look good in cool colours, and if you have warm skin you look good in warm colours.

Finally, contrast your clothing colours with the colour of your hair and eyes. For instance, if you have jet black hair, a black witch costume probably won’t look as good on you as a white angel costume. Or, if you have blond hair, you’re better off in a Little Red Riding Hood Halloween outfit than a Goldilocks costume.

Fancy dress is always fun, but knowing what colours look good on you will make the occasion even more enjoyable.

Children’s Halloween Costumes 0

Posted on August 23, 2010 by admin

As Halloween approaches, children tend to get very excited—and not just about all the candy they anticipate collecting. Most children love deciding on their Halloween costumes. But sometimes they may have a little difficulty deciding.

The best way to help a child choose the right Halloween fancy dress costume is to think about their likes and dislikes, and their personality. Of course there are the classics, like witches, goblins, ghosts, and vampires. But why not go for something a little different this year?

If you have a girl who loves fairy tales, why not suggest a Goldilocks costume or a Tinkerbelle costume? Or if your girl prefers action adventure stories maybe she would rather go to her party as a pirate or Indian? If she loves animals, there are the classics like a brown bear or duck, but why not suggest something more unusual such as a donkey or crocodile?

If your boy is all boy, he would probably love a classic costume such as Frankenstein, Batman, a mummy, or a pirate. If he likes to be cool, why not suggest an Elvis costume or an aviator costume?

Or, if he’s a cuddly, animal lover, he could go as a pig, a monkey, a tiger, or even a bumble bee. There are so many cute animal costumes to choose from.

Finding the right fancy dress outfits for your children doesn’t have to be difficult. Just think about what they like in general and you’ll soon find something perfect for them to wear.

Feminine Halloween Costumes 0

Posted on August 20, 2010 by admin

If you’re a girly girl, and very feminine, you probably don’t like traditional Halloween costumes—let’s face it, scary ghouls and ghosts, creepy vampires and zombies—these are not for you. So, how can you dress for Halloween but still be feminine?

When looking for a feminine Halloween costume, try looking at general ladies fancy dress costumes. You’ll find a whole host of girly costumes from nursery rhyme costumes to 60’s fashion and roaring twenties flapper gowns. You could go to a Halloween party as a pink bunny, a sexy ladybug, or even Marilyn Monroe. Who says Halloween has to be scary

Another alternative for ladies Halloween costumes is to choose a favourite, female historical figure, like Cleopatra or a medieval queen. You could also be a Viking maiden, Maid Marian, or a tavern wench.

But if you do want a traditional Halloween costume, there are some choices that will still make you feel girly and pretty. Go as a witch, but choose a sexy, purple and black costume, or a black witch dress with pink ribbons laced up the bodice. Who says witches are old hags? For a sleek, sexy look, why not go as a black cat? A pumpkin costume is always cute, or to get a little more male attention, why not dress as a sexy vampire with a short skirt and heels? If there’s anything Twilight has taught us, it’s that not all vampires have to be creepy.

As you think about what costume to wear, consider the many choices available for ladies Halloween costumes. Think outside the box!

Masculine Halloween Costumes 0

Okay, so you’re a tough guy, and you hate dressing up. But your girlfriend’s just invited you to a Halloween party, and it’s strictly fancy dress. So, what are you going to do? Turn up in jeans and a T-shirt, and you’ll look like a loser. But turn up in the wrong costume, and you have the same problem. If you’re a man’s man, and you want everyone to know it, you need to choose very masculine Halloween costumes.

Halloween fancy dress doesn’t have to be for women only. There are actually many choices for masculine Halloween costumes that you may not have thought of.

If you’re sporty and strong, why not go as a U.S. Army soldier, a gladiator, or a Viking warrior? Or, if you’re all boy, try Batman or Spiderman. Spiderman is very popular with guys and girls right now because of the Toby Maguire films.

If you’re very intellectual, but still tough and manly of course, you could go as Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, or a monk.

Or, if you’re a little bit romantic even though you’re also very masculine, you could try a fireman, a pilot, a sailor, or Zorro.

If you want to be a bit scary, try a zombie, skeleton, pirate, Frankenstein’s monster, or the grim reaper.

There are so many choices for Halloween costumes now that you don’t have to sacrifice your masculinity for a Halloween party. Just choose something that suits your personality and style.

Choosing a Halloween Costume that Suits Your Body 0

Posted on August 18, 2010 by admin

Finding a Halloween costume that fits properly and looks good on your body can be  a little bit difficult. But with some general rules for finding clothes for your body type, you can find Halloween costumes that are perfect for you.

If you’re apple shaped, or top heavy and busty, you should avoid loose fitting tops, puff sleeves, and anything too tight. Wrap tops and fitted waists will make your torso look thinner, and dark colours look best on your body type. Try a dark blue or black policewoman costume, or a French maid with a laced bodice.

If you’re pear shaped, or your upper body is smaller than your lower body (i.e. you have a small bust, but full hips and thighs), you should try brighter colours on top and darker colours on the bottom, and loose fitting tops and wide necklines. Try black flared trousers with a colourful, funky 70’s fancy dress top, or an angel costume with loose, flowing top and wide wing.

If you’re hourglass shaped, or very curvy with a defined waist, most things look good on you – long tops, fitted waists, and deep V-necks will show off your curves. Try an Egyptian princess costume to show off your frame, or a sexy Goldilocks outfit to accentuate your full bust and show off your thighs.

If you’re rectangle shaped, or straight with less noticeable curves, wear ladies Halloween costumes with V-necks, cinched waits, and spaghetti straps to draw attention to your upper body and make your bust look fuller.  Try a sexy witch costume with plunging neckline, or a pirate wench costume with fitted bodice and low neckline.

Finding the Perfect Ladies Halloween Costume 0

Posted on August 17, 2010 by admin

Finding the perfect ladies Halloween costume can be a bit of a challenge. After all, you want to stand out from the crowd. But you also don’t want to look silly, right? Choosing a Halloween costume should be like choosing any other garment—you should choose fancy dress and casual clothing based on your own personality and tastes. This way you know you will be comfortable and confident in the costume you choose.

If you’re a fantasy prone girl who loves Disney movies, the supernatural, or sci-fi films, why not buy fairy tale Halloween costumes? You could go to your party as Little Red Riding Hood, Little Miss Muffet, Snow White, or Little Bo Peep.

If you’re a sporty girl, why not go for something a bit bolder, like Super Girl, Cat Woman, Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, a cave woman, or a soldier? You even choose men’s costumes if you can’t find one that’s tomboy enough for your taste.

If you love history, or vintage style, why not go as a 1920’s flapper, a hippy, or a medieval princess? Or why not a Greek goddess, an Arabian princess, or a Viking lass?

Are you a giggly girl? If you love telling jokes, maybe you should try costumes from cartoons, like Tweety Bird or Minnie Mouse, or something really silly like a bottle of ketchup, a banana, or a whoopie cushion.

Finding the perfect Halloween costumes doesn’t have to be difficult. Just think about what you really like, and who you’d like to be—even if only for one night.

Fun Halloween Costumes For Men 0

Posted on August 16, 2010 by admin

Fancy dress Halloween parties are becoming more and more popular these days. But for guys, sometimes dressing up in Halloween costumes can be embarrassing, especially if you leave buying one until the last minute, and you can’t find one you really like. But with a little thought, you can come up with men’s Halloween costumes that you are really happy with.

To find a Halloween costume that suits your personality, think about your favourite books, movies, TV shoes, computer games, and comic books. Who are your favourite characters? What genre do you read the most? Do you like the history channel or the Sci-Fi channel?

Are you a funny guy? If you love telling jokes and making people laugh, why not dress as a chicken, a gorilla, or the Pink Panther?

Or, if you’re a history buff, you could go as a Roman soldier or an Egyptian pharaoh, or even Robin Hood. If you’re going with your girlfriend or partner, you could go as a historical pair—like Anthony and Cleopatra, or Robin Hood and Maid Marian.

What’s your favourite movie? Think of your favourite character and look for Halloween costumes to match—the Tin Man, Zorro, Darth Vader, or Batman.

Proud of your country? Why not go as a soldier? Like being in authority? Why not a policeman, Canadian mounty, or a member of  a SWAT team? And remember, ladies love a man in uniform!

To find the right fancy dress outfits, to be honest, you just need to be yourself!
