Fancy Dress For Your Eyes 0

Posted on February 26, 2010 by admin

Many people think dressing up for a fancy dress party or event is brilliant. It’s a great opportunity to let your hair down and really go to town. However, one of the things that are often overlooked is fancy dress for your eyes. Such items can be inexpensive, but nevertheless they can really set your fancy dress costume off.

The first thing to consider is the colour of your eyelashes. The colours that are commonly stocked include purple, pink, green, blue, silver, black and white. They are even available in metallic colours, and there may be multicoloured eyelashes available if you can’t choose one colour.

You probably didn’t realise there was so much choice when selecting your eyelashes, but it doesn’t stop at colour. You can even have feathers for eyelashes, which are guaranteed to make an impact.

Another part of the costume which doesn’t always receive the attention it could is nails. Once again there are selections which can be worn at anytime. There’s no need to wait for a fancy dress party and it’s often less expensive than going to a salon.

At Fancy Dress Ball, we sell you your costume which has several advantages over hiring one. First of all, you don’t have to travel miles to a shop to get fitted, back again to pick the costume up and then back yet again to return it. You are also the only person who wears your costume, so you don’t have to worry about how many people have worn the costume before you.

Stop And Search For Fancy Dress 0

Men don’t always seem to get as excited about dressing up as women. However, fancy dress for men is just as much fun as ladies fancy dress outfits, and there are many options available for how you can dress. For example, some women love a man in uniform, so how about dressing as a policeman? It probably goes without saying, but even when you have decided upon that there is often a diversity of appropriate fancy dress costumes for you to choose from.

There is also the straightforward New York Cop costume. Perhaps the film industry’s influence explains why American policeman seem more attractive than their British counterparts. If you want a slightly military feel to your police uniform, there are a number of Special Weapons and Tactics, otherwise known as SWAT, uniforms.

If you want to go in a completely different direction, you can go out looking like the policeman from the Village People. Alternatively, if you want to be super tough, a Robocop costume which will do the trick.

You can kit yourself out as a plodding London bobby or even as a Canadian Mountie. If you remember the television series ‘CHIPS’, you might like to consider a highway patrol uniform.

If you’re feeling more cerebral, you can be the greatest detective of all time, Sherlock Holmes.

At Fancy Dress Ball, we sell you your costume so you never have to worry about additional fees (associated with hiring) for returning the costume late, damaged or dirty. The costume is guaranteed to be the perfect fit and you can use it as often as you like.

70′s Fancy Dress Fever 0

Posted on February 24, 2010 by admin

70′s fancy dress is often inspired by the fashions of ‘Saturday Night Fever’, and you can make this sort of costume really stand out by purchasing fancy dress accessories. That’s where the best fancy dress suppliers may help. They exist purely to make sure your costume is as good as it can be by supplying all those little extras that will make it outstanding.

If you’re going for that rock star look, you might want to consider glasses with coloured lenses, or perhaps star shaped spectacles reminiscent of the type that Elton John used to wear to such great effect. Glasses shaped like hearts can be considered if you’re feeling really outrageous.

Someone once said that if you want to get ahead, get a hat, and a hat can certainly be the perfect complement to your 70′s fancy dress. How about a sequinned disco hat in gold or silver, or perhaps you’d like something more modest in pink?

If you are playing the rock star, you could opt for an inflatable guitar. To get into the right territory for a 70′s fancy dress party, you could wear a false moustache. If you want something extra in the hair department for your chest, you can achieve a luxuriant hirsute look by underhand methods. A medallion may be considered today to be of dubious taste, but it wasn’t always as frowned upon.

At Fancy Dress Ball, we aim to make everything as simple as possible for you when getting your fancy dress costumes. We think the only problem you’ll have is the incredible choice, but you can take your time as we’re here twenty four hours a day.

Away With The Fairies 0

Posted on February 23, 2010 by admin

One of the most popular subjects for ladies fancy dress is fairy tales, nursery rhymes and classic children’s stories. They say that inside every lady is the little girl she once was, and most believe that if that is the case, it can only be beneficial to let her out sometimes.

With many of the most popular characters in the genre, there is a choice of fancy dress costumes. The very best ladies fancy dress ideas are gathered on an international basis. For example, these days there can sometimes be a choice of Bo Peeps, or a variety of ways of looking like Dorothy from ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

Tim Burton’s forthcoming film is his reworking of ‘Alice in Wonderland’, so Mad Hatter and Alice costumes are probably going to be more popular than ever.

Once again, there can be a choice when it comes even to Little Red Riding Hood fancy dress costumes. You could even ask your partner to dress up accordingly as the Big Bad Wolf.

Some costumes are not tied to specific characters, but are just as much fun. For example, our Cupid Cutie costume – or maybe you want to be the spirit of St Patrick to let out your inner Irish pride.

Other ideas include Snow White, a ballerina, the fairy Tinkerbell from ‘Peter Pan’, a rag doll or a cuddly lion.

At Fancy Dress Ball, we supply all the accessories you need to make your costume really stand out. These include shoes, hats, wigs and make-up, making your costume look all-around authentic. All our costumes are also brand new, fitted and forever yours to keep. That’s why buying high quality gear makes sense compared with hiring musty costumes.

Moulin Rouge Fancy Dress 0

Posted on February 22, 2010 by admin

‘Moulin Rouge’ is French for ‘Red Windmill’, and specifically refers to the sign of the world famous cabaret club in Paris. It is almost as famous as the Eiffel Tower, which is just a short walk away, and tourists often flock to it to immerse in French historical culture.

Of course, the words Moulin Rouge conjure images of far more than the red windmill. It seems synonymous with decadence and, dare one say, a certain degree of sexiness. Baz Luhrmann made a popular film in 2001 which arguably evokes the atmosphere of the club effectively, starring the famous actors Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman.

It should be no surprise then that some suppliers have a whole section dedicated to Moulin Rouge fancy dress costumes. They have taken the opportunity to collect together costumes which, they feel, reflect the spirit of the Moulin Rouge.

For example, one of the newest costumes is a tribute to the character of Sally Bowles in the film ‘Cabaret’. There are lots of choices when it comes to dressing like the legendary dancers who are still a part of the Moulin Rouge’s famous stage show. Red and black are the dominant colours and you’ll hopefully look fantastic whichever fancy dress costume you choose.

At Fancy Dress Ball, we have costumes for mimicking the dancers of the Moulin Rouge. We also offer fancy dress for a senorita, a matador or a lion tamer. We appreciate convenience which is why we deliver your fancy dress costume to you at home so that you can try it on in private and make sure it is absolutely right for you.

Fancy Dress For Flappers 0

Posted on February 19, 2010 by admin

A flapper was a woman in the 1920s who flouted convention. She styled her hair in a bob, wore skirts shorter than the norm and spoke unconventionally; creating phrases we often lend today, such as “the bee’s knees” and “the cat’s pyjamas.” Those independent characteristics still resonate with some modern women, which is why there is often a whole section of fancy dress especially for flappers.

Fancy dress parties themed on a particular decade are always popular. Whilst the demand for 70′s costumes is probably highest, the desire for fancy dress costumes from the ‘Roaring Twenties’ is never all that far behind.

Typical costumes go from the straightforward flapper wearing a glamorous full length dress, a string of pearls and clutching a cigarette holder, but shouldn’t stop there. The banning of alcohol (Prohibition) in America in the 1920s saw the rise to prominence of bootlegging gangsters like Al Capone. This is why there are sometimes a number of ladies fancy dress costumes for the gangsters amongst you.

‘The Great Gatsby’ by F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of the best novels written about the historical period. It is extremely poetic and contains some remarkably romantic images. It sums up the contradictions of the Jazz Age and was made into a sumptuous, beautifully costumed film starring Robert Redford.

At Fancy Dress Ball, we sell you your costume so you never have to worry about whether your local hire shop will have the costume you want. The costumes are always in your size and are, of course, brand new. Fancy Dress Ball will undoubtedly make you look straight out of the twenties.

Funny Fancy Dress 0

Posted on February 18, 2010 by admin

Fancy dress is always fun, as it allows you to dress up as one of your favourite musicians or charaters – or even just a group of people, such as pirates. However, it is possible to take this to another level. Many would say that fancy dress is inherently amusing, but here are some suggestions that will bring a smile to the face of even the most jaded party goer.

The best place to start when looking for fancy dress costumes that are going to raise a smile is here, at Fancy Dress Ball. Our clown and comedy costumes allow you to be a traditional red-nosed clown or even a rather darker medieval jester.

Perhaps you have an inflated opinion of yourself. Well, you certainly will after wearing our giant chef or muscleman costumes! These are inflatable and will ensure you make a huge impact on any party – providing you can fit through the door!

Our ‘Ride ‘em Cowboy’ costume is very popular. Not only do you get a great cowboy outfit, but you are also mounted on your very own comedy horse. The ‘But Mommy, I Don’t Want To Grow Up’ costume is also quite unique. Dressed as a baby sat on the back of your mummy, no one will be able to resist your infantile charms.

Children’s television characters are always popular, and we have recently added Batfink and Count Duckula to our catalogue. If you like sailing close to the wind with your sense of humour, there are also some politically incorrect fancy dress costumes on offer. Wherever you think the line should be drawn, there are plenty of options available.

70′s Fancy Dress 0

Themed fancy dress is becoming increasingly popular. People often prefer the theme not to be specific as they are then able to be more creative in what they choose to wear. There are some themes which can sound very specific, such as cowboys or pirates, but a look at our website here at Fancy Dress Ball will show that there can be infinite variety. Take a look through our huge selection of costumes and you will be amazed at how many choices you have. When you take into account the fact that the costumes are fully customisable with our range of accessories, hats, wigs, make-up and even beards, you will be inspired. In fact you might want to take a look through our costumes before deciding on your theme.

One of the advantages of having a theme is that it enables you to choose your decorations, setting, music and maybe even party games to tie in with the fancy dress and make it into a really memorable event. Choosing a particular decade is very popular. 70′s fancy dress is great as there were some great films to base your characters on. It was also the decade that bought us glam rock, which provides plenty of inspiration. Even the everyday fashions were loud and colourful. The 70′s also saw the birth of disco, and there are plenty of great cheesy tunes which still guarantee a packed dance floor.

Other fun themes include superheroes, children’s television characters and animals. Whatever you decide, we’re bound to have the perfect fancy dress costume.
