70s Fancy Dress

70s Fancy Dress

We love 70′s fancy dress, simply because anything goes! Back in the 1970′s disco, funk and soul was on fire. Everyone seemed happy to dress up in the tightest suits, half mast trousers and platform heels with the brightest colours possible. Most 70′s outfits looked like they had been made from curtain material, to think about some of them probably were!

Relive those memorable years with 70s fancy dress costumes. Check out these two funky dudes loving the ladies and posing for the cameras in their 70′s costumes. They’re simply loving the attention in their huge afro wigs and brightly coloured outfits.

There are some great parties held in the UK are at butlins. If you love fancy dress and 70′s music combined you’re in for a treat. Evey year the Fancy Dress Ball team pull out those brightly coloured fancy dress costumes from the cupboard and strutt their stuff to the disco vibes for three whole nights. Although by the third night our feet are killing from those platform shoes. The great thing though about 70s costumes is that just about everything goes, leopard print to gold lame there are just simply no boundries.

We have some great costumes and accessories to choose from, for both men and ladies alike, from the conservative to the outrageous. See you soon at the next ‘We love the 70′s weekender’ at Skegness in March 2010!

70′s fancy dress is a riot and we simply cannot wait!!

Shoes For Fancy Dress 0

Whilst one has to be careful, in these days of political correctness, not to be sexist, there are arguably some definite differences between men and women beyond the obvious physical ones. For example, some women like cushions and shopping and are obsessed by handbags and shoes!

Apparently it is impossible for a woman to have too many shoes and we can understand that when we look at the range of wonderful footwear that we are able to supply to complete our fancy dress costumes.

Many of our ladies fancy dress outfits and shoes are specific to costumes and really set them off. For example, when dressing as a sexy nurse, you really need a pair of white, high heeled shoes with a nice little red and white cross. Equally, the lady gangster needs a pair of black and white brogues complete with stiletto heels.

Some people really appreciate a pair of kinky boots. Our stock includes red boots for a lady elf, complete with curly toes. We also have stretch patent boots in a choice of colours including black, white, red and silver.

We’re particularly proud of some of the fancy dress items we sell. For example, camouflage sandals look so much better (and sexier) than combat boots although if you want to be a bit more military looking we have camouflage boots as well.

Here at Fancy Dress Ball, we think it is far better to buy your ladies fancy dress costumes than rent them. There often isn’t much difference in terms of price and you can make sure the fancy dress costume fits you. Our fancy dress costumes never smell of mothballs either.

Inspiration For Fancy Dress 0

Inspiration for fancy dress costumes can come from many sources. One suggestion is to look through the best-selling DVDs.

Star Trek seems to have been around forever. Gene Roddenberry’s creation started off as a television series. It eventually spawned many other series such as ‘Voyager’ and ‘Deep Space Nine’. It also launched a whole series of films. The latest instalment went back to when Captain Kirk, Spock, Mccoy, Chekov, Scott, Sulu and Uhuru first took control of the Enterprise. The film has been a huge success and the DVD is selling extremely well. It’s no wonder our Star Trek adult fancy dress costumes are still so popular.

With the advent of the new blu-ray technology many favourites will be getting a new lease of life. Certainly ‘Lord of the Rings’ is already promising to be one of the best sellers of 2010 when a boxed set of the whole trilogy is released. Naturally, we have many costumes from Middle Earth.

We have two different adult fancy costumes for Gandalf. If you’d rather be a baddie, we can have you looking like a Nazgul in no time. If you want to wield an axe then we can have you dressed as Gimli, whatever your height. You might prefer to be handsome Legolas complete with bow and arrow or, if you’re a beautiful woman, we have two different Arwen costumes.

We at Fancy Dress Ball make owning your own fancy dress costumes simple and inexpensive. You will never again have to wear a fancy dress costume that has been worn by a hundred people before you.

Perhaps you’re looking for inspiration as to what you’d like to dress as at your next fancy dress party. Actually it may be that you don’t even know when that’s going to be yet. However, it’s always good to be prepared. In fact, why wait for an invite? Just organise a party yourself. If you’re worried that your home isn’t big enough, persuade your local club to hold a fancy dress themed night. It’ll boost their takings, and you could even raise some money for a worthy cause.

For the ladies, dressing as a bunny girl or Little Bo Peep are obvious, but great choices. We also have less obvious choices such as a buccaneer or pirate or a soldier. It has to be said these costumes do have an added dash of glamour. If you do go as a soldier, you will not look like the average squaddie that you’ve seen on a parade ground.

If talk of scanty adult fancy dress costumes is making you feel fruity, you could take it to a logical conclusion and dress as a banana. Alternatively if fancy dress parties bring out the devil in you, you could dress as the prince of the underworld, Beelzebub.

Other adult fancy dress costumes that include a sexy twist are a boxer – that is a pugilist not a pedigree dog – or a bumble bee. If you really want to make the most of your assets take a look at our bad kitty costume.

We at Fancy Dress Ball, have the best selection of fancy dress costumes anywhere.

Fancy Dress From A to A 0

There are many ways to organise things but one of the most popular has always been to alphabetise, as our American friends say. We’ve done that and can sort out fancy dress costumes for you wherever they come in the alphabet. The only thing is that we have so many fancy dress costumes and ideas that in this article there won’t even be room to look at all the options for just the first letter of the alphabet! Anarchism begins with A and parties can be anarchic.

The adult fancy dress alphabet starts with the letter A and we can have you looking like Al Capone, the notorious American mobster who instigated the St Valentine’s Day Massacre. He did all sorts of terrible and illegal things, but was eventually jailed for tax offences. Whilst we’re always happy to see our customers immerse themselves in the characters they dress as, we trust that you’ll make sure your tax return is in by 31 January!

Next up in alphabetical order is the character of Andy from the hit television series ‘Little Britain’. In case you can’t place him this is the character Matt Lucas plays who is in a wheelchair. Every time his carer Lou turns his back, Andy springs from the chair and performs some act of physical dexterity. Perhaps the most noticeable thing about Andy is his diabolical haircut and we’re pleased to tell you that we can supply a fancy dress wig that’s perfect.

We at Fancy Dress Ball sell adult fancy dress costumes so you never have to worry about fines for returning costumes late.

Harry Potter And The Search For Fancy Dress 0

The Harry Potter books have been a publishing sensation and broken all sorts of records. Likewise the films have become a national institution and made Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson into international stars. It is hardly surprising therefore that many people turn to J K Rowling’s characters when looking for fancy dress costumes. In fact, so fanatical are many of the Hogwarts fans that they will dress up given any encouragement. Whether they’re off to see the premiere of the latest instalment or just want something appropriate to wear as they watch the DVDs back to back once again, we can supply some magical threads.

The most popular character from the film is, of course, Harry Potter himself and we can supply the fancy dress costume, including the academic robes. However, if you’re feeling especially evil, you might prefer to dress as Harry’s arch enemy Voldemort. We have a fancy dress costume for that as well.

There are some evil henchmen to Voldemort in the shape of the dementors. So you may choose to terrorise muggles by donning the black garb of these soul-sucking monsters. Perhaps you’ll go even further and become a death eater. They are every bit as nasty as their name suggests.

Whatever the costume you’re looking for, we at Fancy Dress Ball are sure we’ll have it. In addition, you’ll get to keep the adult fancy dress costume and not have to travel backwards and forwards to your nearest adult fancy dress hire shop. Nor will you be obliged to wear slightly worn and torn gear.

80s Fancy Dress

80's Fancy Dress

It’s the start of a new year and we’re looking forward to the first of many 80′s fancy dress party weekends at Butlins Skegness. This year the 80′s fancy dress weekend is a little earlier in the season so you may want to consider keeping your feet warmer with some great 80′s neon leg warmers.

Last year saw the popularity of 80′s fancy dress costumes sore, especially neon tutus. The great thing about going neon is that you can mix and match colours to be as loud as you want, add some great 80′s fancy dress accessories like a spiky rocker wig and some coloured beeds. Basically you have a great 80′s costume for under £30.

This year we’ve some great additions to our 80′s fancy dress costume range. The official Top Gun Aviator Pilot, Baywatch Lifeguards and Twister his and hers costumes are new out , as well as 80′s favourites like Beetlejuice and Ghostbusters. If you’re going as a group of girls then how about going as Air Hostess? The new Virgin advert relives the 80′s with the lauch of Virgin Atlantic. Our bright red Air Hostess Costumes are deluxe quality and will definately be a hit with the boys!

Which ever 80′s fancy dress costume look you need, we’re sure to offer a costume to suit. We can’t wait to see all our friends in Skegness for what should be a great 80′s Fancy Dress Costume Party to top last years.

See you Soon!

Headgear For Fancy Dress 0

There is a saying that should be heeded by anybody attempting to be at the forefront of fashion. It is, “If you want to get ahead, get a hat”. Whilst we’re happy to supply your complete fancy dress costumes, we’re also delighted to provide a stylish titfer. Before you ask, titfer is actually a real word. It comes from the cockney rhyming slang for hat which is ‘tit for tat’. It’s always good to learn something new even when you’re looking for your next fancy dress costumes!

Whether you’re a disco diva, a pimp, an Australian, a biker or a musketeer, we can supply the perfect hat and fancy dress. Maybe you’d just like a fez. Well, we can supply one just like that. Maybe you’re dressing as a witch (or maybe you’re a real one) and you’re looking for something black and pointy. We have a selection so you needn’t settle for the first thing you see. After all, just because you’re a witch doesn’t mean you have to be unfashionable.

Any gentleman wishing to look de rigueur should consider a top hat or fedora. In fact ladies might wish to consider a fedora, particularly if it is going to top off one of our gangster ladies fancy dress outfits.

You may be dressing up as a cowboy and haven’t managed to find a hat to reflect your character. Well at the last count we at Fancy Dress Ball have over two dozen to choose from. We have even more pirate hats and adult fancy dress costumes for gentlemen and ladies.

Facial Hair 0

For the last couple of years, November has been rechristened Movember and men everywhere have been encouraged to grow moustaches for charity. However, don’t feel you’ve missed out for another year or that you need to stop scraping a razor over your face every morning. Instead, take a look at our range of adult fancy dress costumes beards and moustaches. In actual fact a nice piece of facial fluff can form the basis for a very simple and inexpensive fancy dress costume ideal for stag (or even hen) parties.

For example you could go for an Arabian kit consisting of sunglasses, beard and headdress. If you’re using a full costume such as a pirate, you’ll want a nice bushy beard in black or grey or you could just go for a droopy moustache. Actually a good moustache is essential for many would-be cowboys as well. We have them available in a range of colours so you can match your natural colouring. After all, you wouldn’t want to go to a fancy dress party looking silly!

Some characters have very specific facial hair requirements, but we can help. For example, a nice thick – you might even say luxuriant – moustache and eyebrows will set you well on the way to being Groucho Marx. You’ll have to supply your own individual cigar, though. Be careful with the smoking ban as well!

At Fancy Dress Ball, we can supply fancy dress for everything from full costumes to wigs, beards, moustaches, hats, shoes, masks and other accessories. Whether you’re looking for the complete adult fancy dress costumes or just the finishing touches we can help.

Fancy Dress In History 0

Posted on January 20, 2010 by admin

There is nothing new about fancy dress. It has a long and illustrious history. For example, in Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ there is a masked ball. Indeed in seventeenth Century Italian masks and costumes were particularly popular at carnival time. This influenced masquerade balls which became something of a fashion across the whole of Europe in the decadent eighteenth Century.

The masquerade was considered to encourage bawdy behaviour (some would say that the modern fancy dress party is much the same!) and the puritans took control at the beginning of the nineteenth Century, and the popularity of the masquerade fell away.

However, the nineteenth Century saw people dressing up as literary or foreign characters. It is said that Queen Victoria was a fan of fancy dress and during the nineteenth Century it was not unheard of for the opening of a new public amenity to be attended by the public and civic dignitaries alike in adult fancy dress costumes.

Whilst dressing as characters from Shakespeare or Dickens was not uncommon, people would also dress as concepts such as one of the four seasons. Hopefully, any lady dressed as autumn would manage not to shed all her leaves. In the prudish Victorian era, such a joke would not have been universally appreciated!

We at Fancy Dress Ball have adult fancy dress costumes from all sorts of historical periods. You can sit in the comfort of your home and select your costume from a huge selection. You can even customise it with a variety of facial hair, wigs, hats and accessories. Plus you get to keep the costume after the party.
