After our first visit to Butlins as a team we decided to spread the word and invite all our friends on a 70′s weekend.  We asked around and managed to 20 friends to come along – all of them trusting us that they were guaranteed to have a good time!  As you can see from these pictures they were not let down.  We stuck with the colourful 70′s pimp costumes for this event.  Most of our friends had the same idea and between us all we must have looked like we had stepped out through a hole in time.

We decided after that event that we had to add something really special to our costume selection and got our thinking caps on, keeping our eyes open for new ideas and themes.  Two people in our party had already got themselves some real top class costumes with a Rock God fancy dress theme. 

Butlins Rock Gods

Alice Cooper and Gene Simmons were brought to life and all they wanted to do was rock and roll – and party!  The Butlins weekender crowd loved the rock costumes and many people wanted – in fact they insisted on getting their photographs taken with them!  Maybe you were one of those people – why not send in your photographs to fancydressball.co.uk and we will share your happy times with everyone.  Now the challenge was set and we knew we had to go one better then the rock gods.  It was decided that next time we were all on an event together we would all get into themed costumes and multiply the affect of the fancy dress costumes and entertain the Butlins crowd once again.

Butlins 70's weekender

Fancy dress costumes have been a passion for the whole team here at fancy dress ball for several years now.  The beginning for all this dressing up and having fun was when we all attended our first Butlins Weekender together.  Now many have weekends have passed since then, most of them at Butlins Skegness but also at Butlins Minehead.

As I’m sure you are all aware each Butlins adult weekend has a theme – including 60′s, 70′s, 80′s and disco inferno to name a few.  Our first weekend together was a 70′s weekend in 2006.  Our fancy dress costumes came from a mixture of previously owned items and some items bought prior to the event.  I think we even topped up our costumes with some items from Skegness town centre!  Butlins also sell some good top up items like wigs, shades and other accessories for those last minute additions.  We quickly noticed the look of fun and enjoyment on other peoples faces as we pranced around the big tent with our Mother-of-all-afro wigs on and our brightly coloured pimp outfits.  Look at the picture – I am the one with the genuine moustache by the way – very proud of that tash I am!

Feeling a genuine part of someone elses fun and enjoyment is a feeling that you don’t come across very often.  After that night we new what we had to do – keep coming to Butlins, keep enjoying ourselves and keep sharing the fun with everyone!  The fancydressball.co.uk team had given themselves a challenge - can we look better at the next event!  Stay tuned in to this Blog for our progress.

Ladies 60's Fancy Dress

The line between 60′s fancy dress and 70′s fancy dress is quite blurred as the flower power and hippie era did cross both decades.  But wether your going to a 60′s fancy dress or 70′s fancy dress event you’ll be sure to find yourself a costume solution at fancydressball.co.uk This theme really allows you to go for a complete head to toe look with every item of your costume having multiple options making your choice of costume combination unique amongst your fellow party goers.  It’s almost a certainty that you will be able to add to your costumes with items from your own wardrobe, but if you don’t tell anyone then I won’t!

Pink Panther fancy dress

A staggering elevan movies have been made including the release in 1963 of the first movie The Pink Panther.  It was the success of the movie series which spawned the animated series with this much loved and huggable character you can see in this photo.

This is a great fancy dress costume which requires very liitle preparation and is really simple to wear.  The whole outfit is a simple one piece jump suit – a bit like dressing up when you were a child!  Then simply pull up the elasticated hood and hey presto – your in character fancy dress!

Check out this bevy of beautiful young ladies who have chosen to have themed costumes.  This is the moulin rouge selection of outfits.  The moulin rouge look has always been popular and more so since the release of the Baz Luhrmann movie Moulin Rouge! starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.  People of all backgrounds would come to the famous Paris showbar to see the beautiful Can Can dancers and saloon girls.  The girls costumes shown here with bright colours and designed so as to leave less to the imagination that some other fancy dress costumes!

You can see that these girls are obviously very happy with their costumes.  I know that the smiles on their faces stayed there all the way through their fancy dress crusade.  It really was an impressive sight to see such a great group of girls having lots of fun in true fancy dress style – I know you did girls!
